Course: Rice & Rice based Dishes
Prepation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 35 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes
Serves: 4 to 6
Ingredients:
- 1 cup brown basmati rice, washed
- 2 cups of water
- ¾ tsp of rock salt
- ¼ tsp haldi ( turmeric)
- 1 tbsp of ghee or any oil of your choice
- Few coriander leaves, cut courcely
Method:
- Wash the rice 3 times in cold water and keep it aside.
- Place a large saucepan on medium heat and add rice, salt, haldi and ghee and leave it to boil.
- As soon as it starts boiling, stir it nicely and reduce the heat to low and cover the pan.
- Rice is ready in 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, take out a few grains and press them with your fingers to check if these are done and there is no water. One tip to check if the rice has been cooked is that holes can be seen on the top.
- If not ready, leave it for a few more 5 minutes.
- Transfer rice to a serving plate and fluff it with a fork, decorate with coriander leaves and serve while hot.
- To make it vegan, olive oil can be used instead of ghee.
Special note:
-
Rice tastes best when served with Rajma, Chole, Paneer Sabz Bahar and Dal Makhni to name a few.
