Porridge is one of the favorite breakfast dishes of grandchildren.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 10 minutes Total time: 15 minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp of butter
- 100 goat mixture
- 150 ml water
- 200 ml whole milk
- Agave syrup or honey
- Few strawberries
- Few blueberries
- Optional:
China seeds, Cacao nibs, Raisins, Chocolate drops or cinnamon powder
Method:
For making porridge, I make a mixture in this ratio such as 1 cup of jumbo oats, ½ cup of barley flakes and ½ cup of millet flakes and store these in an airtight glass bottle and use it as and when required.
- Take a heavy based medium size pan, preferably steel, and keep on a medium heat. As soon as butter melts, add oat mixture and combine these nicely and keep stirring for approximately one minute. Make sure that it does not burn.
- Add water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat as soon as it starts boiling and leave it to simmer for 2 minutes. You should see that it does not stick to the bottom. You can cover this, but it needs to be stirred continuously.
- Then add milk and bring the heat to medium and bring it to boil. As soon as it starts boiling, stir properly and reduce the heat. Cover the pan and go on stirring the mixture continuously taking care that it does not stick to the bottom.
- It will take 4 to 5 minutes before it becomes soft and creamy. If the mixture looks thick, some more milk can be added and stirred while left on low heat.
- Cold milk can also be added at the time of eating if it is very hot.
- This can be eaten with agave syrup or honey. Strawberry and blueberries can also be added to the porridge.
- Other optional items as added in the ingredients list can also be added.
Special Note:
Porridge is a quick and easy to prepare recipe. It is a perfect dish to enjoy as it is or to jazz up with your favorite toppings like fruit, spices or can be eaten cold with yogurt or just classic honey. It is one of the best breakfasts to have to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
